The idea is to bring in a photo of a military veteran and create a ornament using our supplies to hang on our tree from November 1 to January 6. The ornament is yours to keep after the take down date. Our goal is to display the tree inside our building so we can honor those who served our country to protect our freedom. Let's fill this tree! Lastly, are you creative enough to make a gingerbread creation to last 27 days? GMPL is joining other Lorain County libraries this holiday season with a county-wide art contest sponsored by Christmas Around the World CLE. Participants may enter an around-the-world themed gingerbread creation for display at our Library with visitors voting for the best one. One finalist from each Library goes on display at the Christmas Around the World festival at the Lake Erie Crushers Stadium from November 25 to January 4. One winner is announced on December 14 and awarded $250. An additional $250 is given to the winner's choice of charity.We know there are many patrons in our district who have the talent to win. I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to the amazing staff at the Grafton-Midview Public Library. Their support made it possible for me to be productive during my 1 1/2 days in town for the Pan-American Masters Games, specifically the Track and Field events at Baldwin-Wallace University last week. Using the local history room all day on Monday, July 15th was incredibly helpful. A special mention goes to Nancy K. who not only cheered me on in my hurdling (Men's ages 60-64 category) but also surprised me with a refreshing bottle of Gatorade! Nancy, I'm thrilled to share that I secured a 2nd silver medal on Tuesday afternoon in the 300 meter hurdles.
